Case Summary  |  Amblyopia

Condition Head Eye Amblyopia
Case Description

When i was born, I had a case of amblyopia, or in layman's term, a lazy eye. In my earlier years, it was very obvious and doctors struggled to find a way to solve it. My parents and doctors discussed simple solutions, which involved wearing an eye patch over the good eye to balance out the 'work'. For the majority of my elementary years, I wore an eye patch, sometimes with a sticker over it to help with the social awkwardness of it. It didnt help much and unfortunately got worse. the doctors called my parents and discussed the possiblity of a surgery for asthetic reasons. My parents agreed and in 1997 at the age of 7, I underwent surgery on my left eye. i dont remember much besides waking up and not being able to open my eyes at all. I stayed in the hospital for a few days resting up and they finally released me after they determined I was healthy.
Today my lazy eyes is not as noticiable to strangers, but to me, i see it everyday. The corrective surgery did help a lot and i highly recommend it if it becomes a problem. Unfortunately, my peripheral vision on my left side is slowly deteriorating and I fear that eventually my left eye will be unusable in my later years. if that seems to be the case, then i would have no problem getting a glass eye for purely asthetics.
