Case Summary  |  Back and Neck: Nothing to Shake a Stick At.

Condition Back Upper - Neck (Cervical) Muscle Strain
Case Description

Back in 2002 I was in a car accident that although jolted me around quite a bit, wasnt that serious in the end since nobody was hurt. Supposedly. Years later my bakc and neck began giving me problems. Shooting pains and stiffness that at first made me think I just slept funny. However as the weeks went on and the pain lingered, I began to get frustrated.
I sought out the advice of a chiropractor who X-rayed my neck and spine and sure enough, that part of my body wasnt too pretty. He said most likely from the car accident and that I pretty much will need to be dilligent about my treatment. He adjusted my spine and things soon began to improve, slowly but surely. The day before my last adjustment however, I still had lingering pain and this was many weeks later. Not wanting to keep up expensive chiropractic visits, I essentially resigned to the fact that I may just have to live with this and trust my body to adjust accordingly to its new situation.
However, then the headaches set in. I call them my "Marathon Headaches" because, like my neck and back pain, they have the ability to set in and linger for days to weeks. One particular day, I had a rehearsal for an opera that I was in that was supposed to be an all day rehearsal. I had been sitting comfortably singing along to my music when my headache quickly began to seem more like a migraine headache. For a few hours I began thinking I might actually have to leave the rehearsal as it showed no sign of letting up and with my previous experience with these sorts of headaches, they usually last for days. At our break, I was going to go home when the lead in the opera asked me if she could practice her Reiki on me for my headache. Completely not believing in it at all, I said, "Sure why not." And sat there while she sat behind me and did whatever she was doing. Since she didnt ever touch me, I had no idea what this was consisting of. This lasted for about 5 minutes. We were called back into rehearsal and I found my seat again. A few minutes later, I was shocked to realize my headache wasnt only better, it was GONE. Completely, 100% gone. And knowign how my headaches are not so fair weather by themselves, I completely attribute that to the Reiki.
To this day, I still struggle with back and neck problems but if I ever am lucky enough to be around another Reiki practictioner, you bet I will seek them out for help with pain instead of a chirorpactor.
