Case Summary  |  back problems after child birth

Condition Back Upper - Neck (Cervical) Pinched Nerve
Case Description

A few days after I had my daughter I woke up with intense pain in my upper back and right shoulder blade. I could barely move and I literally crawled out of bed, just moving out of bed took me about 10 minutes. I called my DR who insisted it was probably a pinched nerve and if it wasn't better in a day or two to come in. Because I was in excruciating pain I called a chiropractor and my husband took me in the same morning. The chiropractor did some x-rays and over several days of 'adjustments' determined I had a pinched nerve in my neck and he prescribed regular adjustments and regular types of exercise.

For about a year I suffered off and on pain from this condition, it would improve for awhile and then get bad again. I also began to have bad pain in my hip and down my leg.

Finally I decided enough was enough and I knew I had to get my weight under control. It took me about 1.5 years total, but eventually I lost 70+ pounds and I haven't had any back pain in over a year, even losing just a small amount of weight helped the problem considerably. I occasionally have hip pain, but I think this is primarily due to sleep position.

The most effective treatment for this painful condition was weight loss and exercise.
I currently run about 25 miles/week and have lost 70 pounds since this first occurred. I am very mindful of my posture, especially when I'm running. I make sure I run with my shoulders back and head up.
