Case Summary  |  E.D.S

Condition General Hypermobility
Case Description

I was born with E.D.S, i was officially diagnosed in 2000 at the mayo clinic in Rochester mn where we learned that surgery is NOT recommended for EDS patients, unfortunately this was discovered after i had already had knee surgery. I have tried many different treatments but there is very little knowledge about EDS, it was recommended that i follow up in 4-5 yrs because of all the medical advancements taking place, maybe they would know more about it then (but i have never gone back in to the mayo clinic) I continued doctoring in my home town where drs prescribed a fair amount of different meds to try all along the lines of pain meds or anti inflammatory, as well as physical therapy for whatever joint/area was giving me trouble at the time; knee, shoulder, hip....
i currently have no ins, but thankfully i haven't had any reason to go to the dr for it yet. i have a really understanding boss who knows im a "freak" so some days im almost babied, she will tell me to go home on some of my....almost bad days.... (still not so bad that i cant get out of bed)
one day if i ever have ins again, maybe ill go back to the mayo clinic and see if they have come up with any new information/ treatment regarding EDS.

self diagnosing i thought maybe losing 10 lbs would be easier on my joints.

Case History & Details

Treatment Combo Anti-inflammatory Medication (NSAID) + Swimming + Biking + Ultrasound + Weight Loss + Bed Rest + Individual Therapy + Essential Oils
Treatment Result
No change
Description

im not sure if ultrasound helped or if the pain/snapping sensation woukd have went away over the same period time, as the ultrasound was one of many things attempted in one of my individual physical therapy sessions that particular method was used about twice a week for 6 wks, often times during my other physical therapy treatments i walked out feeling worse (as in; experiencing more pain) than when i walked in. swimming i found to be a good exercise as there was virtualy no impact on my joints, the same goes for biking. i have been prescribed anti inflammatory drugs but im not certain that they helped or not. bed rest has never lasted more than two days before i was able to get back to normal everyday activity
