Case Summary  |  Keloids

Condition Skin Keliods
Case Description

Describe what happened, how you treated it, and what's going on today
Ihave had keloids for the past seven years but did not know about them until 2006 when i pierced my ears and a few months later they started growing on my ear lobes, i had them on my shoulders but did not know what they were.
I have had the keloids excised twice but each time they recur much faster than the previous time. The first time i went for surgery the doctor recommended that i follow the surgery up with radiotherapy this treatment did not work. I later realised that the doctor did not remove the whole growth but a part of it.
The second surgery was done 9 months after later. This time i changed doctors and he advised me to go for steroid injections that would prevent the keloids from recurring. This treatment did not work either and three months later the keloids started recurring.
Currently the keloid on my right ear is really big and am considering going for a third surgery. About six months ago i saw two doctors who told me that the current treatment on keloids is not through surgery but through steroid injections that make the growth shrink. I am apprehensive on running for more treatments as the ones i have tried have failed.

The treatment involved excision of the keloids and radiotherapy to prevent them from recurring. They recurred opting for a second excision

Made worse
Description

Small growths on my shoulders that occurred seven years ago but got worse as of 2006 when i pierced my ears and the same started occurring on my ears. I have undergone 2 surgeries which have been unsuccessful. I am currently considering going for a third though i have visited two doctors who have told me that they can be treated using steroid injections in order to shrink them. I am apprehensive about running for any treatment because what has been previously suggested to me by doctors has failed and the keloid on my right ear is really big and i do not think any kind of injection would shrink it completely.
