Case Summary  |  Knee pain

Condition Knee Articular Cartilage Damage
Case Description

I was a physical training instructor in the US Army, therefore you know that I exercise a lot. After the Army, I used to run five or ten kilometer races. After a ten kilometer race, of which I ran down the hill to fast, my right knee hurt bad. I tried to do another five kilometer race about a month later, but had to stop because of the pain.
The first doctor said that I had straight feet, therefore I must buy shoes that are right for me, not just regular curved shoes. Wrong answer, because the pain was still there with the new shoes.
The next two doctors, said that the reason that I had pain in my knee was because my right leg wasn't as strong as my left leg. Wrong answer again. Exercise was unbearable pain.
Six years later, I visited a different doctor, and described my knee pain as little pebbles in my knee. He knew right away the answer without any MRI's, x-ray's or anything. I had cartilage floating in my knee.
I had arthroscopic knee surgery and no more pain. Yeah!!! I do have instability in my right leg due to the fact that all cartilage is gone. Sometimes I wear a leg brace, and I take Glucosamine & Chondroitin Sulfate tablets daily. Oh by the way, the doctor told me that I am hyper extensive in most of my joints, so that really doesn't help this issue.
The moral of this story is not to hyper extend your legs running down hills, and if it feels like little pebbles in your knees, tell your doctor that.
