Case Summary  |  Lower Back Pain

Condition Back Lower (Lumbar) Herniated Disk
Case Description

I had severe lower back pain after slipping on a patch of ice. I fell on what I called by tail bone. The initial pain that I had was in my lower back. After a few days I started to have pain shooting down my left leg. I also started to have muscle spasms in my lower and upper back. I went to see my doctor. He sent me to a Neurologist. The neurologist sent me to a Neurosurgeon. The neurologist ordered an MRI. I had a herniated disk on my L5 S1 disk in my lower back. The neurosurgeon first put me on bed rest for 2 weeks. I also saw a Chiropractor for treatment and physical therapy. I took mostly muscle relaxers and percoset for the pain. Ultimately I had to have a Discectomy to relief my pain and all the muscle spasms. The outcome was a 100% cure. I am pain free and have no limitations with my back. I still do the lower back strengthening exercises that the Neurosurgeon gave me to do to prevent further injury.
