Describe what happened, how you treated it, and what's going on today

I was playing Rugby back in high school and some inexperienced player on the other team, made an improper takle. He hit me slightly from behind, and while stepping on my foot, he twisted my body sideways while falling to the ground. This action twisted my knee causing a tear and simultaneously breaking my ankle. I treated the knee injury by going the the ER and having both x-rays and an MRI taken. I then was given to a knee brace to wear, and was sent to a specialist. My options were either surgery which at the time could have caused more damage than the initial injury, or i could wear the brace for a few weeks and allow the injury to heal naturally, but not fully.
