Case Summary  |  My Struggle with RLS

Condition Neurological Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
Case Description

Back in 2008 I began my struggle with restless leg syndrome. (RLS) I had and office job and there would be many times through the day when I just had to get up and walk around because I felt an intense sensation in my legs. I would get up and walk down the hall of my office etc in order to relieve the feeling. I didn't know what it was an this continued for over a year before a friend of mine had suggested that perhaps I had RLS. She was worried because the frequency of my urges to get up and move were increasing; sometimes I would get up almost immediately after I had sat back down.

I went to a doctor on 6/23/2009 to see if this was the problem and sure enough it was. He diagnosed me with RLS. He told me I needed to get a good amount of exercise in the mornings.

Starting from then on I began doing leg stretches and walking every morning before going to work. This helped to some extent but I saw that over the two months following that I was still feeling the urges to move in my legs at least three or four times a day.

I went back to my doctor and that's when he finally prescribed me pramipexole. After about a week of taking the pramipexole drug the sensations in my legs were almost gone.

Today I still take pramipexole and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. It has helped a great deal. I still have the sudden urge to move a few times per day, but it's a lot better than feeling a constant need to do so! Along with taking the drug I do still walk every morning. I think it has helped me a great deal so I suggest everyone else with RLS try the same. It just might help.
