Case Summary  |  Painful Wrist Clicking

Condition Arm Wrist Sprain
Case Description

As a student I have to carry my books, and I used to use a single strap shoulder bag to carry the dozen textbooks that amounted to over 50 pounds all in the bag. I suppose that picking it up with only one hand was not the brightest idea in retrospect. One day about halfway through the school year as I picked it up it slipped and caught on my thumb, jerking it back terribly. It felt like I had broken or sprained it initially. Overtime though I either got used to the pain or it went away, I'm still unsure of which. I eventually visited my chiropractor and told him of my issue and he adjusted it and told me that it was "out". The pain subsided but this was only a temporary relief. A week later the pain came back when reaching down to feed my cat my wrist clicked audibly and pain shot through my arm. I went to my physician who referred me to a specialist who told me I had sprained my wrist terribly. "Worst sprained wrist I've seen in a long time," he had told me. I got sent to physical therapy after he wrote me a prescription for painkillers. I had tried using pressure to fix it myself like the chiropractor had but that made it much worse. I went to physical therapy and they treated me by rubbing it and showing me how to properly massage it in addition to having me flex it with objects and small weights. After a couple weeks of this I continued taking my pain medications and I avoid using my wrist as much as possible since regardless of all the work with it it still has a pain in it with that awful clicking. It isn't nearly as bad as it was before, but still it is quite irritating.
