Case Summary  |  Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome

Condition Neurological Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
Case Description

Having had extreme pain in my ears, sinuses and head for three months with doctors unable to diagnose what was wrong with me, I finally saw a physician who noticed lesions on my sinuses and diagnosed me as having Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome. It's extremely rare and painful with no real cure. Luckily I didn't develop Bell's Palsy as a result of my flair up, but the pain was quite bad enough. I was put on a course of anti-viral medication to attempt to get rid of the H. zoster virus that was causing it, and a prescription of Lyrica to attempt to block the pain. The side effects of Lyrica were debilitating, however, so luckily it's not something I have to take all the time, just when flair-ups occur, which are extremely infrequently.
