Case Summary  |  Sciatica - pain of a main nerve

I got it by lifting up my kid (5 years old) and felt a slight twitch, like something shifting in my back and then moving back in its correct place. Then pains in the lower back region (mine was on the left) and sort of filtered down through my leg to my big toe. My leg would be non responsive or stiff make it hard to walk, sit down, bend your knees or even trying to lay down (eventually when down and comfortable the pain appears to drain away). Initially the doctor thought i had pulled a muscle in my leg but on insisting to see a specialist and a CT scan later the diagnosis was made. For treatment so far i have had to have some steroids injected into the spine region of where the problem started (mine L5). This does not solve the problem but allows the soft tissue around the nerve to stop upsetting it and then allowing it cool to the state it was in before. I have had two of these so far with a possibility of a third. There are other options but frankly as it involves nerves and backs (when it goes wrong it goes wrong) this treatment appears to be the best for a decent stab to recovery.
The recovery period for Sciatica about 12 - 24 months depending the severity of the pinch and goes hand in hand with regular physio therapy sessions.
