Case Summary  |  Treating a Skin Rash

Condition Skin Rash (Small Red warts)
Case Description

I experienced a moderate skin rash on my mid and upper back, which can best be described as small painful red warts. They were numerous but tiny in size and seemed to be concentrated primarily between the shoulder blades. I quickly determined that an experimental dietary supplement that I was taking for approximately one month was the culprit and not a virus infection. Applying an ice pack for approximately twenty-five minutes seemed to soothe or numb the pain. I also used an alcohol based cream solution to minimize discomfort when sleeping. Getting a lot of bed rest and keeping myself well hydrated seemed to noticeably lower the pain intensity as well.

The doctor informed me that this skin rash was a temporary condition and then proceeded to drain the fluid from each wart with a needle, which was a little uncomfortable, but apparently a necessary step in the healing process. Additionally, he suggested that I use an over the counter cleansing toner to keep the affected area as clean as possible as well as prescribed an analgesic painkiller medication to be taken for seven days.

I followed the doctor’s recommendations, slept on my side or face down for about a week, thoroughly washed my back a few times a day while applying a toning cleanser. The warts that the doctor originally drained would reappear about a day later in smaller sizes, which then needed to be repeatedly drained to completely eliminate reoccurrence. The warts seemed to release a yellowish substance, but according to the doctor this was simply the body’s way of evacuating or ejecting harmful toxins and that within a matter of days they would completely disappear, which fortunately turned out to be the case.

Today, I’ve not had any reoccurrence of this particular skin rash and I always make sure to carefully check the labels of supplements as well as research possible side effects before using them. This incident served as a reminder to regularly conduct a self-examination and when in doubt always consult with a physician.
