Case Summary  |  Treating an Abnormal Growth on my Skin

Last December I noticed an abnormal growth that looked like a light brown mole on my left shoulder. It was about the size of a dime in diameter. However, it wasn’t sensitive to the touch or painful. I applied some hydrogen peroxide to thoroughly clean the area and attempt to disinfect if it turned out to be a bacterial infection. Two days later, I went to the doctor who examined the growth and he prescribed some medication, which he advised I should use for approximately seven days and track any progress being made. He also seemed to be under the impression that this growth grew over the course of a couple of months and that it wasn’t an overnight occurrence. He suggested that I should keep the area clean, and not combine the prescribed medication with over the counter skin care or body wash products for a period of ten days.

Within a matter of four days, the growth began to substantially shrink in size. I called the doctor three days later to update him and he suggested I continue the treatment until the growth was gone. Six days later, it completely disappeared.

Today, I do a weekly self-examination to make sure that everything is fine. I also decided to stick to a regular diet, exercise regimen, as well as use a skin toner/cleanser. I was fortunate that there wasn’t any evidence of reoccurrence. The doctor never offered an explanation as to the cause of this condition, but suspected external environmental factors may have played a role.
