Case Summary  |  Upper back pain

Condition Back Mid (Thoracic) Muscle Strain
Case Description

I have a job where I am required to sit at my desk for prolonged periods. I am constantly turning and shifting to get various materials, answer the phone, and print out documents. One day I was working on a project and I had printed out some material. Instead of turning my chair, I twisted my back in an awkward angle. I immediately felt a hot burning sensation between my shoulder blades and pain as well. I found it difficult to sit up straight after that point. I keep Aleve in my desk drawer, so I took one as soon as I felt the pain. Ever since I have been working in this job, I have been having an issue with pain between my shoulder blades. I have started exercising and getting massages to help my muscles and back become stronger. The back pain has gotten a little less extreme since I have introduced these measures. I still feel pain, but it is not at the same level as before. Good posture has helped as well. I am making an effort to not slouch when I am at my desk working. I feel this may have contributed to my back pain.

The Aleve helped a lot because it eased the pain when I had it. It made it possible for me to exercise and keep proper posture. The exercise made my muscles stronger in my upper back and allowed me to work at my desk for longer periods. The massage worked especially well when my muscles became sore.
