Scoliosis can be developed as a secondary symptom of another condition, such as spina bifida .

Scoliosis is a curving of the spine. The spine curves away from the middle or sideways. A doctor may suspect scoliosis if one shoulder appears to be higher than the other, or the pelvis appears to be tilted.

Spina bifida refers to any birth defect involving incomplete closure of the spine. Normally, during the first month of a pregnancy, the two sides of the spine (or backbone) join together to cover the spinal cord, spinal nerves and meninges (the tissues covering the spinal cord).

I was born with spina biffida in 84. I had some surgeries in which half of my right back muscle was removed and wrapped around the exposed base of my spinal cord and then a skin graft over that. Because of the removed back muscle, I have a severe case of scoliosis. I'm in alot of pain everyday, but there ....
