General Asthma Treatment
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the airways, which causes attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing. When an asthma attack occurs, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight and the lining of the air passages swell. This reduces the amount of air that can pass by and can lead to wheezing sounds. Signs and symptoms of asthma range from minor wheezing to life-threatening asthma attacks.
The goal of treatment is to avoid the substances that trigger the symptoms of asthma and to control airway inflammation. Asthma can't be cured, but its symptoms can be controlled.
