Internal Cervical Incompetence Treatment

The cervix is the lowest part of the uterus; it extends into the vagina. Cervical incompetence is a medical condition in which a pregnant woman's cervix is too weak to stay closed during a pregnancy. Cervical incompetence may cause miscarriage or preterm birth during the second and third trimesters.

The growing pressure in the uterus makes weak cervix to open as pregnancy progresses. Treatment for cervical incompetence is a surgical procedure called cervical cerclage, in which the cervix is sewn closed during pregnancy.

The best alternative to the cervical cerclage is the bed rest.
