Knee Plica Syndrome
Plica Syndrome is also known as Synovial Plica Syndrome. Plica is a a fold of tissue in the lining of the knee joint (synovium). It is an embryologic remnant that is present throughout life. It has been likened to the appendix, which can be a source of pain but lacks important function.
Plica Syndrome occurs when the plica becomes irritated or inflamed. The condition can be very painful. Plica Syndrome can be acute or chronic. Acute condition occurs during knee trauma. Chronic plica problems can be developed when plica is irritated by exercises that involve bending and straightening of the knee numerous times, such as biking. If irritation is widespread, your whole knee may become swollen.
Your doctor has to do a physical exam to make the diagnosis and rule out other conditions.
The usual treatment for plica syndrome is conservative, it includes:- Rest from strenuous activities

- NSAIDs such as ibuprofen to reduce inflammation
