Shoulder AC Joint Sprain Treatment
An Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Sprain is the result of injury to the ligaments crossing from the collarbone (clavicle) to the acromion (upper part of the shoulder blade). When AC joint is injured, normal arm movement and function is severely limited.
A sprain is an injury to the ligaments around a joint. Ligaments are strong, flexible fibers that hold bones together. When a ligament is stretched too far or tears, the joint becomes painful and swell. The AC joint is an important joint because it is the only true bony attachment of the arm to the rest of the skeleton.
AC Joint Sprain injuries may be treated with a sling, strapping or surgery; they may also be treated with pain management, physical therapy etc.

I sprained my AC joint when I tripped and fell on my elbow. My injury was a grade 3, so thankfully I didn't need surgery. Ice was used to relieve pain and swelling. Taping was to immobilize the area and a splint was used to take weight off of the area..
